MDCAT Merit List 2026: How It Works and When to Expect It
How the MDCAT merit list is prepared, what goes into your aggregate, and what last year's official UHS schedule tells us about when lists could appear.
The MDCAT was held on 20 September 2026, and UHS has already announced the Punjab result. The next question on every candidate's mind is the MDCAT merit list: how it is prepared, what goes into your aggregate, and when your name could appear on it.
This guide explains the process step by step, using UHS and PMDC information. Where a date is official we say so, and where it is only an estimate based on last year's cycle we label it clearly.
MDCAT Result vs Merit List: What's the Difference?
The MDCAT result tells you your score and whether you cleared the minimum marks. The merit list comes later and ranks every qualified candidate by aggregate, which also counts your Matric and FSc marks. Passing the MDCAT only makes you eligible; it does not by itself give you a seat.
| Program | Minimum marks | Out of 180 |
|---|---|---|
| MBBS | 55% | 99 marks |
| BDS | 50% | 90 marks |

How to check your MDCAT result by name or roll number
- Open the results portal of the university that conducted your test. For Punjab, that is the UHS results portal.
- Find the entry for the MDCAT 2026 result, held on 20 September 2026.
- Tap Search Result and enter the details it asks for, such as your roll number or name.
- Note your score out of 180. You will need it to work out your aggregate.
If you sat the test through another body, such as KMU, DUHS, NUMS, JSMU or BUMHS, use that university's own portal. Searching for a "PMC" or Pakistan Medical Commission result? PMC was the regulator's earlier name; today it is PMDC, and your result comes from the testing university.
How the MDCAT Merit Is Calculated
For public medical and dental colleges in Punjab, UHS's 2025-26 admission notice weighted the three components as shown below. The 2026-27 prospectus should confirm the formula for this cycle, but the weights have been consistent with the 10/40/50 formula we use on our calculator.
Each component is first turned into a percentage, then multiplied by its weight.
Worked example
| Component | Marks | Percentage | Weighted |
|---|---|---|---|
| Matric | 900 / 1100 | 81.82% | 8.18 |
| FSc | 950 / 1100 | 86.36% | 34.55 |
| MDCAT | 140 / 180 | 77.78% | 38.89 |
| Aggregate | 81.62% | ||
Now imagine the same candidate had scored 155 out of 180 in the MDCAT. The MDCAT part becomes 43.06 and the aggregate rises to 85.78%. Those 15 extra marks added about 4.17 points, or roughly 0.28 for every single MDCAT mark.
Skip the manual maths and try your own marks.

The MDCAT is a national test under PMDC, but admissions to public medical and dental colleges are handled province by province. That is why there is no single national merit list.
Always read the prospectus of the body you are applying through. Seat categories, deadlines and eligibility rules are set there, and UHS asks applicants to select the seat categories they qualify for when applying.
When Will the MDCAT Merit List 2026 Come Out?
There is no official merit list date yet. The merit list cannot appear until applications have opened and closed, so the application window is the first date to watch. Here is where things stand for 2026:
| Stage | Status |
|---|---|
| MDCAT 2026 test | Done, 20 September 2026 |
| Punjab (UHS) result | Announced, 24 September 2026 |
| 2026-27 prospectus and application dates | Not announced when this page was updated. Check uhs.edu.pk |

How the Merit Lists Work, Step by Step
- Apply online. Register on the admission portal with your name, your father's or guardian's name, email, CNIC or passport number and a password, then choose the seat categories you qualify for. Upload your documents and pay the application processing fee (Rs. 2,000 in 2025-26). You can edit your application until the deadline, but the number and order of your college preferences become final after it.
- Your aggregate is calculated from your Matric, FSc and MDCAT marks using the weights above.
- First selection list. Candidates are placed in colleges according to merit and the preferences they gave.
- Join your college. If you are selected, pay the college fee and join in writing by the due date. UHS says admission is confirmed only when both are done.
- Upgradation lists. Seats left empty because candidates did not join are filled in later lists, again by merit and preference. At UHS, upgradation is mandatory, and upgraded candidates must report to their new college within the stated time.
What is closing merit?
The closing merit of a college is the aggregate of the last candidate admitted there. It changes every year with the number of seats and how well candidates score, so last year's figure is a rough guide to how competitive a college was, not a prediction. Check the official UHS list rather than figures copied onto other websites.
Looking for Last Year's MDCAT Merit List or Older Lists?
Many candidates search for the last year merit list of MDCAT to judge their chances, and some look further back for the MDCAT merit list 2023, 2022 (including KPK), 2021 (including Punjab) or even 2020. Those lists belong to earlier admission cycles.
The test pattern and total marks have changed over the years; this year's MDCAT, for example, has 180 MCQs. So use older lists only to see roughly how competitive a college has been, and rely on the original document from the issuing university rather than a third-party copy.
The better way to judge your own chances is to work out your aggregate, then compare it against the official closing merit once UHS publishes its lists.
