Exemption: Minimum 50 Score Valid Within 1 Year

Note: Your test paper follows your HSSC group, so choose the matching group when you register. If you sit another test instead, Air University can exempt you from the AU-CBT, but the test must match your HSSC qualification, you need a score of at least 50, and you must have passed it within one year of Air University's admission closing date.

Accepted exemption tests: For engineering, NAT-IE, NAT-ICS, USAT-E, USAT-CS (for computer-related HSSC), and the entry tests of UET Lahore, NED-UET Karachi, MUET Jamshoro, NUST, ETEA-KPK and HEC USAT-E. For computing programs, NAT-ICS, NAT-IE, NAT-IM, USAT-E, USAT-M and USAT-CS. For business and management, a SAT-I score of at least 1100 or any of the six NAT/USAT types.

How the Air University Aggregate Is Calculated (2026)

Air University uses two undergraduate merit formulas, one for engineering programs and one for non-engineering programs. Each result becomes a percentage, is multiplied by its weight and added up. The same formula applies at every stage, whether you sit the AU-CBT or qualify through an accepted test.

Engineering Programs

Aggregate = (SSC % × 0.10) + (HSSC % × 0.50) + (Entry Test % × 0.40)

Non-Engineering Programs

Aggregate = (SSC % × 0.15) + (HSSC % × 0.35) + (Entry Test % × 0.50)

Worked Example

SSC 950/1100 (86.36%), HSSC 900/1100 (81.82%), entry test 72/100 (72%). Engineering: (86.36 × 0.10) + (81.82 × 0.50) + (72 × 0.40) = 8.64 + 40.91 + 28.80 = 78.35%. Non-engineering: (86.36 × 0.15) + (81.82 × 0.35) + (72 × 0.50) = 12.95 + 28.64 + 36.00 = 77.59%. These numbers are only an illustration.

Why the Test Matters More for Non-Engineering

The entry test carries 50% of non-engineering merit but 40% of engineering merit. In engineering, your HSSC result matters most at 50%, so a strong intermediate result gives you a head start before the test.

Which Programs Use the Engineering Formula

The engineering eligibility group covers Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Engineering. Computing programs such as BS Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Data Science and IT sit outside it, as do business and social science programs. If you are unsure, confirm with the admissions office.

Minimum Marks to Apply

Engineering programs need at least 60% in HSSC, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science. PEC also sets a minimum of 33% in the entry test. Most other programs ask for at least 50% in HSSC. Air University counts the exact percentage, so 59.9% is not treated as 60%, and a partial pass or a supplementary paper makes you ineligible.

A-Level Students

If your qualification is equivalent to Intermediate, you must submit an IBCC equivalence certificate before the semester starts. Enter the equivalent marks and totals from that certificate in the SSC and HSSC fields.

MBA, MS and M.Phil. Merit

Postgraduate programs use a different formula: 50% terminal degree and 50% entrance test (GAT-General or HAT at a score of at least 50). This calculator covers undergraduate admission only.

How Air University Merit Works

Once your Air University aggregate is calculated, it decides where you stand against other applicants for the same program. Only candidates who qualify the admission test are offered admission, in order of their position on the merit list.

Qualify the Test First

You qualify by passing the AU-CBT, or by holding an accepted test score of at least 50 that matches your HSSC group and is less than a year old. Engineering applicants also need at least 33% in the entry test.

Your Aggregate Sets Your Position

Merit is ranked on the aggregate formula for your program type. A higher test score lifts your position, and with a 50% weight it moves non-engineering merit the most.

Provisional Admission

If your HSSC result is awaited, Air University can give provisional admission. It is cancelled if you score below the program minimum (60% for engineering, 50% for most other programs) or do not pass all subjects.

Check Your Campus Notice

Air University has campuses in Islamabad, Kamra, Multan, Kharian, Karachi and Bahu. The Karachi and Bahu campuses run their own admission portals, so check the notice for the campus you applied to. Merit lists and admission notices come through the Air University admissions portal.

Note: We do not publish closing merit for Air University because we could not verify official figures. Closing-merit numbers online are estimates, and they disagree widely. Use your calculated aggregate as a general guide and confirm your position on the official merit list.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Air University aggregate formula?

For engineering programs, Air University merit is 10% SSC, 50% HSSC and 40% entry test. For non-engineering programs, it is 15% SSC, 35% HSSC and 50% entry test.

How do I calculate my Air University merit?

Convert your SSC, HSSC and entry test marks into percentages, multiply each by its weight and add them. The calculator above does this for you and shows the contribution of each part.

Why do some websites show a 10/40/50 formula for Air University?

We follow Air University's own admission page, which lists 10% SSC, 50% HSSC and 40% test for engineering, and 15%, 35% and 50% for non-engineering. A 10/40/50 split for all programs is not what that page shows, so check it before you rely on another site.

Which programs use the engineering formula?

Air University's engineering eligibility group covers Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Engineering. Other programs, including BS Computer Science and BBA, use the non-engineering formula. If you are unsure, confirm with the admissions office.

Which entry test does Air University accept?

Air University runs its own computer-based AU-CBT. It also exempts candidates who passed an accepted test such as NAT or USAT with a score of at least 50, within one year of the admission closing date, and matching their HSSC group. Engineering also accepts tests from UET Lahore, NED-UET, MUET, NUST and ETEA-KPK.

Can I use my NAT, USAT or ECAT score in the calculator?

Yes. Enter the marks of the test you are using and its total marks. For engineering, a UET Lahore entry test is an accepted exemption. Make sure the test matches your HSSC group and meets the minimum score of 50.

What marks do I need to apply to Air University?

Engineering programs need at least 60% in HSSC, and PEC requires at least 33% in the entry test. Most other programs need at least 50% in HSSC. Air University counts the exact percentage without rounding, and a partial pass makes you ineligible.

Can pre-medical students apply for BS Computer Science?

Air University's computing programs ask for at least 50% in HSSC and Mathematics at intermediate level. Students who did not study Mathematics have to pass a 6-credit Mathematics deficiency course in the first year.

Can A-Level students use this calculator?

Yes. Submit your IBCC equivalence certificate before the semester starts, and enter the equivalent marks and totals from it in the SSC and HSSC fields.

Does the formula change for MBA, MS or M.Phil.?

Yes. Those programs use 50% terminal degree and 50% entrance test, with a GAT-General or HAT score of at least 50. This calculator covers undergraduate admission only.

Does the Air University formula differ by campus?

Air University's official admission page gives the undergraduate formula without a campus split. The Karachi and Bahu campuses run their own admission portals, so check the notice for the campus you applied to.

Where can I check the Air University merit list and result?

Air University shares admission notices through its admissions portal. Check it and your campus notice for merit list dates, because they change each admission cycle.

What was the closing merit of Air University last year?

We do not publish closing merit because we could not verify official figures, and figures online disagree. Compare your aggregate with the official merit list for your program.

Can I use this for older sessions like 2018?

No. The calculator follows Air University's current official admission criteria. Earlier sessions may have used different weights.

Is this an Air University GPA or CGPA calculator?

No. This page calculates your admission aggregate only. For semester GPA or CGPA, use a dedicated GPA calculator.
