Subject Distribution (Engineering & Computing Programmes)
Note: NUST runs the NET as a Computer-Based Test (CBNET) at Islamabad and Quetta, and a Paper-Based Test (PBNET) at Karachi and Gilgit. NET is held across multiple test series each year, with separate online registration required for every series. Business, Applied Sciences, Architecture, and Natural Sciences applicants sit different subject splits — see the formula explainer above for the full breakdown by stream.
How NUST Merit Lists Work
NUST doesn't publish an official closing-merit percentage table for its programs. Instead of a public cutoff number, NUST assigns every applicant a merit position — a rank, not a percentage — visible only through your own admission portal login. Here's how the process actually works.
Merit Position, Not a Published Percentage
Once your aggregate is calculated, NUST ranks all applicants for each program and assigns you a merit position based on where your aggregate falls. A lower merit position number means you're ranked higher and stand a better chance of a seat — but NUST doesn't publish these cutoffs publicly, so there's no official "closing merit" figure to check in advance.
When Selection Happens
Selection for undergraduate programs begins after all NET series for the year are complete — for the 2026 admission cycle, NUST's official schedule lists selection starting in August 2026 (tentative), ahead of classes commencing in September.
Multiple Merit Lists, Not Just One
NUST doesn't release a single final list. As selected candidates confirm their seats by paying dues, and others decline or miss deadlines, NUST releases subsequent merit lists to offer those seats to the next-ranked applicants — so your merit position can still result in an offer even if you weren't on the first list.
How to Check Your Merit Position
Log in to the NUST Undergraduate Admission Portal using your registration number and password. Your merit position for each program you applied to is shown there once results are compiled — it isn't published on any public page.
Confirming Your Seat
If you're selected, you'll need to download your provisional selection letter, pay your admission dues within the given deadline, and submit required documents (Matric/O-Level and Intermediate/A-Level certificates, among others) to confirm your seat. Missing the deadline means your seat is offered to the next candidate on the list.
Note: Any "NUST closing merit list" or specific cutoff numbers you find elsewhere online are unofficial, third-party estimates based on self-reported student data — not figures published by NUST. Use your calculated aggregate as a general guide, and check your actual merit position through the official admission portal.

CBNET (Computer-Based NUST Entry Test) is held at Islamabad and Quetta; PBNET (Paper-Based NUST Entry Test) is held at Karachi and Gilgit. Isb = Islamabad, Qta = Quetta, Kci = Karachi, Glt = Gilgit. Dates are tentative and subject to change by NUST — always confirm on NUST's official admissions page before registering.
How the NUST Aggregate is Calculated (2026)
NUST uses a different merit criteria than MDCAT or ECAT. Instead of splitting weight fairly evenly, the NUST aggregate formula puts almost all the weight on your NUST Entry Test (NET) score — 75%, with FSc Part 1 at 15% and Matric at 10%. However your Matric and FSc went, it's your NET performance that decides your final aggregate and merit position. This formula has remained consistent across recent NUST admission cycles.
The Formula
Aggregate = (Matric % × 0.10) + (FSc Part 1 % × 0.15) + (NET % × 0.75)
What Is the NET (NUST Entry Test)?
NET, short for NUST Entry Test, is the university's own admission test — separate from ECAT or the HEC-administered NAT. It's the single biggest factor in your NUST aggregate, so a strong NET score can outweigh an average Matric or FSc result, and vice versa.
FSc Part 1 or Combined?
If your FSc Part 2 result hasn't come out yet, NUST calculates your merit using Part 1 marks only. Once your final intermediate result is declared, use your combined Part 1 + Part 2 marks instead — always enter whichever total you've officially declared at the time you apply.
NET Total Marks
The NET is out of 200 marks, with subject weightings that vary by your chosen program (e.g., Engineering programs weight Mathematics 50%, Physics 30%, English 20%.
A-Level Students
A-level students (in their final year) use a different sub-formula: 25% O-level equivalence + 75% NET, replacing the separate Matric/FSc components.
Does the Formula Change by Program?
The 10% Matric + 15% FSc + 75% NET split applies whether you're calculating your NUST aggregate for BBA, Computer Science, Engineering, Biosciences, or any other undergraduate program — it's a university-wide formula, not one that changes by department. What can change is how the NET's 200 marks are weighted across subjects, as with the Engineering example above.
How to Use the NUST Aggregate Calculator
No sign-up, no manual formulas. Enter your Matric, FSc Part 1 (or combined), and NET marks below and this NUST aggregate calculator returns your exact 2026 aggregate percentage in seconds, using the same weightage NUST applies for undergraduate merit.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the NUST aggregate calculated for 2026?+
By combining Matric (10%), FSc Part 1 (15%), and your NET score (75%) into one weighted percentage. NET dominates the formula.
What is NET in NUST admissions?+
NET stands for NUST Entry Test — NUST's own university-administered admission test, separate from ECAT or NAT. It's the single biggest factor in your aggregate, worth 75% of your final score.
What is the NUST merit criteria?+
NUST's merit criteria weights the NUST Entry Test (NET) at 75%, FSc Part 1 at 15%, and Matric at 10%. This weighting has stayed consistent across recent admission cycles.
Is the NET computer-based or paper-based?+
Both, depending on test centre. NUST runs the NET as a Computer-Based Test (CBNET) at Islamabad and Quetta, and as a Paper-Based Test (PBNET) at Karachi and Gilgit.
How much aggregate is required to get into NUST?+
There's no single fixed number — required aggregate varies by campus, program, and year, since NUST releases separate closing merit figures for each. Check NUST's official merit lists for your specific program to see recent closing aggregates.
Does NUST use full FSc marks or only Part 1?+
It depends on your situation. If your Part 2 result isn't declared yet, NUST uses your Part 1 marks. If you already have your final intermediate result, you enter your combined Part 1 + Part 2 marks instead. You can use this calculator either way.
What is the NUST Entry Test (NET) out of?+
200 marks. Subject-wise weightings within the NET vary depending on your academic background and chosen program — see the full test pattern breakdown above.
Does NUST accept SAT or ACT scores?+
Yes. NUST accepts admission on the basis of ACT/SAT scores as an alternative to the NET, with its own separate registration window and deadline for submitting scores — distinct from the regular NET schedule.
How does the formula work for A-level students?+
A-level students (in their final year) use 25% O-level equivalence plus 75% NET, replacing the separate Matric and FSc components used by Intermediate students.
Is the aggregate formula the same for every NUST program?+
Yes — the 10% Matric + 15% FSc + 75% NET split applies university-wide, whether you're calculating your aggregate for BBA, Computer Science, Engineering, or Biosciences. What differs by program is how the NET's subjects are weighted within that 75%.
What's the difference between my aggregate percentage and my NUST merit position?+
Your aggregate is the weighted percentage this calculator gives you. Your merit position is your actual rank number on NUST's published merit list, based on how your aggregate compares to every other applicant for that program. A higher aggregate generally means a better (lower) merit position number.
